Last week Scott Metcalfe FNZCPHM, on behalf of the New Zealand
College of Public Health Medicine and OraTaiao: The New Zealand
Climate and Health Council, had an editorial published in the New
Zealand Medical Journal;
'Fast, fair climate action crucial for health and equity'. The
College would now like to urge you to join one of the People's
Climate Marches this weekend.
Health professionals will be among the thousands involved in the
Marches. They are being held globally, including across New
Zealand, to call for solutions to climate change. The Marches are
taking place ahead of the United Nations Climate Summit being held
in Paris from 30 November to 11 December.
Dr Rhys Jones, FNZCPHM and co-convenor of OraTaiao states
"Urgent action, based on a fair approach to reducing global climate
emissions, is essential for our health. As a developed country and
a high emitter, New Zealand needs to be a team-player at the
upcoming climate talks in Paris."
Rhys says we have a unique chance to create a healthier and more
hopeful future. "Join us and the growing number of New Zealanders
calling for real climate solutions, not pollution, at your nearest
People's Climate March this weekend."
