WONCA 2020 Asia Pacific Regional Conference

23 - 26 April 2020, Auckland, New Zealand

The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners and New Zealand Rural General Practice Network are proud to be co-hosting the WONCA Asia Pacific Regional Conference in Auckland in 2020.

WONCA - the World Organization of Family Doctors - is a global network of primary health care organisations which represent more than 500,000 GPs and family doctors worldwide. In 2020, New Zealand will be the host country for the annual Asia Pacific Regional conference.

The theme for WONCA 2020 is: Family Medicine - leading the way towards an advanced world of equity, quality and compassion

The essence of this theme is captured in the Māori whakataukī (proverb): Ko te pae tawhiti whāia kia tata, ko te pae tata whakamaua kia tina/Seek distant horizons in pursuit of excellence.

Set to attract more than 1000 GPs and primary care practitioners from New Zealand and abroad, WONCA promises to be one of the leading primary healthcare conferences in New Zealand in 2020 and will combine the strengths of the highly regarded Conference for General Practice and the Rural General Practice Conference.

Featuring a range of clinical streams, practical workshops, and discussions, the conference will explore the scientific and human contributions we can make to create a future that embraces progress, while still retaining the core values needed to move us towards the goal of equal health for all.

Confirmed keynote speakers include:

- Professor Ian Couper (Ukwanda Centre for Rural Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of Stellenbosch University, South Africa)

- Professor Trish Greenhalgh (Primary Care Health Sciences, Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford, UK)

- Dr Alexander Ng (Deputy Director of China Program, Head of Health, Innovation & Partnerships - Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation)

- Dr James Renwick (Weather and climate researcher, and Professor of Physical Geography at Victoria University, New Zealand)
