Snapshot of New Zealanders’ health released Thursday, 11 December 2014

The  Annual Update of Key Results 2013/14: New Zealand Health Survey provides up-to-date and retrospective information on key health issues facing New Zealand adults and children. This information is vital to being able to effectively monitor trends and identify changing patterns of disease.

Survey data is collected continuously but findings are reported annually. The latest update is based on data gathered from more than 4600 children and more than 13,300 adults surveyed from July 2013 to June 2014.

A number of indicators collected by the New Zealand Health Survey are designated as Tier 1 statistics - the most important official statistics, essential to understand how well New Zealand is performing as they measure the performance and progress of the economy, society and the environment. In health these indicators are smoking (current), obesity, self-rated health and mental health status (psychological distress).
